Your actions make a difference

Lights Out Wisconsin is partnering with individuals, organizations and municipalities to encourage people to:

  1. turn off unnecessary lights all year round,

  2. swap out lightbulbs and fixtures to ones that minimize light pollution, and

  3. remember to turn out additional exterior lights when it matters most to wildlife and natural phenomena like northern lights.

1. Sign up for lights-out alerts

We will email and/or text you when heavy bird migration is predicted and turning off the lights is ESPECIALLY important.

2. Switch to smart lighting

Turn off unnecessary lights, use fully shielded fixtures, add motion sensors and timers, switch to warm color temperature lights (less than 2200K).

3. Advocate in your community

Your neighbors, municipalities, and local businesses need to hear from you about the importance of dark skies and smart lighting.

4. Join our network of Lights Out Wisconsin advocates

To reduce light pollution and celebrate the benefits of dark skies, we need all hands on deck. If you want to join our group to help with outreach in your community, offer perspectives and guidance for our work, or contribute time, photos, or funding, please fill out our form in the button below.
